story of my life...

What is the theme for your two videos? Create an outline for your videos (be a general or specific as you feel is necessary).

so, not really the story of my life. it's the story line for my advocacy videos! The theme we are using is, "Everyday Family Play: A Prescription of a Closer, Happier, Healthier Family." We are trying to advocate getting 30 minutes of physical activity in as a family and by doing this daily, your family will be a close knit family, everyone will be happier, and healthier people. This includes family members of all ages- toddler to great grandparent!

Video 1- Each family member takes a turn saying 1 word from the phrase "every day family play" then it cuts to scenes of them playing several different games (basketball, trampoline, modified board games, raking leaves, etc). Then they each take turns saying words from the sub title "a prescription for a closer, happier, healthier family" and then ends with either a picture of them smiling/laughing/playing or a video of them walking/playing together.

Video 2- No talking. Just music, pictures, and words. Show several clips and/or pictures of the family playing together, being close and happy. Freeze on a clip or picture, and have the words "everyday family play: a prescription for a closer, happier, healthier family" come up (thinking maybe a sidewalk chalk style of writing). this is more of a cute/feel-good type commercial :)

yeah. that's what we're thinking.

internet safetyness

In about 1 page describe your opinions about internet safety, what changes, if any, you will make about how to use the internet. How does this apply to teens or the students you would teach? Also, tell about the internet safety lesson you gave – who you taught, highlights, etc.

I think internet safety is one of the most important things a person should know about, yet it is one of the most overlooked qualities about the internet. Many people are oblivious to what some people can and will do with the information they find on the internet. Even if a person is very cautious with their information, bad things can still happen (some people are very tech and internet savvy and will use their powers for evil).

For example: my older sister is fairly cautious with the information she puts on the internet. A few months ago, an e-mail got sent from her account saying she was in London and had been mugged and no longer had any money or anyway get travel and that if people could, they should help her out with money. We found out that this had happened because several relatives had called me and asked if she was alright (I hadn't checked my e-mail yet, so I wasn't sure what was going on) and when they told me she was in London and had been mugged, I was very confused. I told them that she was safe and in Indiana, not London. We have no idea how this creep got into her email, but somehow they did. I assume that if people had responded, the person would have asked for credit card information. I think we notified everyone in time before that happened, and my sister deleted her account. We have no idea how this happened, as she is pretty good with the information she has put out there. Some people are just tech savvy creepers and make bad choices with their abilities. Oh well. They'll have to face judgment day at some point...

If I were to make any changes, I would limit the age of a person who can have an e-mail or be on facebook. I know that many websites do this, but people (teens and kids I guess) lie about their age so they can be online. If there was a way to enforce this, I would (but people must have their agency I suppose). I would also advocate to parents and teens about what kind of information they put online, and also tell them to check out any and all privacy settings for the website they are on. I would also inform them of basics (don't give out your passwords, don't tell people where you live, be cautious, etc.). I think people should have safety seminars and instructions on how to be safe. I also think that popular websites should have advertisements and links to videos about internet safety.

This applies to the students I would teach (or teens in general) a lot. It seems that that age is the most oblivious to the bad things that can come from putting to much info online or not being careful with passwords and things of that nature. Maybe it's because their naiive, or maybe they're just dumb. Whatever the reason, they should be informed of the do's and don'ts of the internet.

For teaching people about internet safety, I looked up several websites that teach and promote safety. I shared these websites with a few of my friends (Alex, Colin, Lisa, and Nate to be exact). We looked through some of the websites together and discussed what they promoted. Some of the sites we looked at were: kidshealth.org isafe.org NetSmart.org. We all wished that people would stop creeping and use their internet powers for good and not for evil (this doesn't really seem likely though.... dang you, adversary!)

and....how does that make you feel?

Discuss your feelings about this project both in terms of what you learned and its usefulness to you as a teacher. As you discuss the project the following are some things you should consider: Do you feel the project was beneficial? Would you use a website like this in your class (why or why not)? Do you feel you could create another website if asked to do so? Was it easier (or more difficult) to create this website that you thought it would be? Also, make sure you include the URL (web address) of your website so I can grade it.

This project was definitely a handful, mostly due to the fact that I am not nearly as tech competent as I thought I was (which wasn't all that high to begin with....oh well. We're here to learn, right?). I kind of enjoyed being able to play around with everything and also envision how I can use this when I actually do become a teacher. I went to my old high school's website and noticed that several teachers have their own websites. Some hardly work, and some are great, but it's good to see that teachers are trying to use technology and reach out to their students in another way (a way that teens are very familiar with). I feel like overall, the project was beneficial. Making the website was awesome. I feel like some of the stuff was unnecessary (like making the syllabus- we'd already been taught how to use the googledoc, and I didn't particularly enjoy coming up with 2 course syllabuses. I think I would use a class website like this for my future classes. I think it was very handy, useful, fun, and reaches out to the students (it also shows that you are willing to put more time into helping them). I think I could create a new website if asked to. It would take me a bit to get it completely right, but I could eventually do it. Parts of this project were harder and parts were easier than I thought it would be. It mostly just took a long time to get it all correct and the way I wanted. I did have to ask a few classmates for help on things, so it's a good thing we're teaching majors and willing to help one another! Overall, good project. Lots of work, but good and beneficial for our future.

Oh and here's my CLASS WEBSITE. It's the bomb.com. hahahahah....i'm SO funny.

Enjoy! :)

Struggle like a Muggle...

Talk about challenges or problems you have. If you find solutions to them, include those as well. If you find an easier way to do something or a tutorial or some other helpful resource, share that as well. Read your group member’s PLE’s and if they have a problem and you know how to fix it, leave a comment and tell them!

So I've done quite a bit of work on my class website, but I'm struggling with a few things. 1- is this step- 1 self-directed, supplemental activity that includes a video/presentation (you can find these on Youtube, TeacherTube or Slideshare), links to Internet sources, and instructions on how to complete the activity.
I just am not sure what is supposed to be done with this. Are we supposed to make a video, or find a video, and then have them do an activity related to the video? I have no idea, and definitely need some clarification on that one. 2- do we have to use some of the links given on the 'embedded helpful things' section? ex: if i decide to do a list of reading sources, do i NEED to link it to amazon, or is that just a suggestion? or if i do book recommendations for the course, do i HAVE to use Goodreads? and 3- how much contact information do i need to put on there? I put just my email, and was wondering if that was sufficient.....?

any insights to these questions would be very appreciated.

also- please note the dorkiness of my title. Yes, i used the word muggle. I'm a huge harry potter fan...... EXPELLIARMUS! bet you weren't expecting that...

BOOM BABY.
